The Importance of Routine in Skin Care
No sponsorship, etc. Just my opinion.
Hello beauties! Are you a creature of routine, like me? As I get older, I'm realizing how important having healthy routines are for every part of life, especially skin care.
For example, I do not sleep with makeup on. This involves washing it ALL off and following my night time skin care routine. I received a free Makeup Eraser sample and then proceeded to buy a dozen of them (I'm not exaggerating. I wish I were exaggerating.) This cut my skin care routine in half, as I no longer have to wash my face with a cleanser to remove my makeup.
I remove my makeup, then use eye cream, Differin Gel, and a night cream. I make sure to let my night cream sink in for at least 15 minutes so my pillow or sheets don't rub it all off. Right now I'm loving the Neutragena Deep Moisture Night Cream, which reminds me of one my grandmother used to swear by. She also had a great skincare routine and amazing skin... maybe it's not just good genes!
I typically do not wear makeup on the weekend unless I have a special occasion, as I wear it all week at work and I like to let my skin breathe. I still wash or use a micellar water in the morning, even if I did wear makeup the night before. No matter what I do, sometimes there is still mascara under my eyes in the morning! After that is an SPF and moisturizer in one, right now I'm using the Differin one. I will definitely repurchase and possibly review later along with a Differin check-in, as I've been using it quite some time now and my skin is pretty clear. I do still have some trouble areas, and clogged pores that just won't seem to go away, but that's another day.
My routines keep me sane. Along with coffee upon waking and listening to Stuff You Should Know as I fall asleep, my skincare routine helps my skin and my mind. Seeing my time and money turn into smooth skin and no PMS zits anymore means something to me and makes me happy. I would have loved clear skin as a younger woman but I never put the work in! Of course your skin will be dull and gross if you rarely exfoliate and don't moisturize (cough cough college Katie) and of course smoking is TERRIBLE for skin! The pores on my nose cleared out within a few weeks of quitting a few years ago.
What does your routine look like for the morning or the night? How does it help you keep sane?
