Your Face and Friends
Hello beauties! Despite my best efforts, I still sometimes get pimples. After recently getting a large, cystic pimple right below my left cheekbone, I wondered where it could possibly come from. I realized where it came from sitting at my desk at work while looking at proofs... My hand was resting on my left cheek, and I had pimples where my hand was. It was one of those light bulb moments. My face comes in contact with a LOT throughout the day, and it continues at night.

Terrible photo, but my point stands. |
First thing in the morning I drink coffee and attempt to assume human form. After washing, I moisturize my face, neck, and ears right away (my current trial moisturizer has SPF 30). It sinks in for half an hour or so while I drink more coffee and play with my cat. He's a furry little fellow, and he sheds a lot. Hair floats around, as does dander.
I use my fingers and brushes to apply makeup. I was using a NYX sponge that I adored and was $10. The cat stole it, and I can't find it. Not that I'd want it back, but I'd like to at least know what he did with that and the Nomad highlighter he stole from my Ipsy bag. My point being, I don't wash my brushes every day. I aim for every weekend. Every other weekend. Maybe every other other weekend... Germs, dead skin, makeup, all that is building up on my brushes and sponges when I have them. I'm then applying them to my face. I apply primer with my fingers, that's my saving grace.

Kamikaze the Makeup Stealing Cat |
Throughout the day, my face is exposed to the air and whatever's floating around in it. I live in a decent sized Minnesota city and work in a 50 year old building full of people. I also touch my face without thinking and my hands are probably filthy.
I usually wash my face within an hour of getting home, so it's on my skin about 10 hours a day. I apply serums and moisturize again before going about my evening. Throughout the evening, I'm cuddling the cat. I sleep on my stomach and back throughout the night, so my face is touching the sheets, pillow cases, and my comforter. I'm fairly positive that the cat sleeps on my face a lot, too.
My face has a lot of friends throughout the day. From brushes to the cat, nothing is perfectly clean. Good thing I have an immune system!
Has anyone else ever thought about how much their face goes through each day?
