My Morning Routine (Depending on the Season)
Rise and shine, beauties!
On days when I need to face the world head-on, I put on my full face of makeup. Truth be told, on lazy days off if I don't leave the house, I wash my face and that's it. If I know I'll be outside, I put on a moisturizer with SPF in it.
However, if it's a work day or if I'm headed out, the full arsenal comes out.
I live in southeastern Minnesota, and have Seasonal Affective Disorder, and due to the change in light during the winter months, I change up my entire routine. Despite medication and treatment, I have trouble getting out of bed in the winter, especially since it isn't light out until 7 a.m. or so. I get up between 5 and 6 and work at 8, and I work in an office that is very, very far from a window. Some days I am out in the field, but that could be another building or a flower garden, depends on the day.
In the summer, the sun is up at 5 or so, so that's no problem, and I function a lot better in my daily life. I shower, eat breakfast, pack lunch, other healthy habits. Winter, not so much. I stay in my nice warm bed as long as humanly possible. I will shower if I've managed to get up in time, but I shower at night a lot in the winter while I'm still awake and upright. In the summer, I shower daily or every other day, again, it depends on the day.
In terms of skin, in the winter, it is dry, and in the summer, it is normal/oily. I swap out my cleanser (the Up&Up version of Clean and Clear's Morning Burst cleanser) for a rich emollient cream like Ponds Cold Cream and use coconut oil exclusively as a moisturizer. In the summer, I use a BB cream with an SPF or a light moisturizer with an SPF. I love love love Garnier's BB cream, the normal to oily in the large tube. I'm on at least tube number 3. I started using it when it came out, and it's a huge tube and I use a small amount. It's available at most drug stores.
As soon as I'm out of the shower, I put my hair in a Turbie Twist (about $10 at Walmart, Target, or Walgreens) after squeezing out any excess water. I put on Mary Kay's Pore Minimizer after my eye cream, right now I'm using 5 in 1 Eye Cream from First Aid Beauty, which I purchased at Sephora. It's very nice, doesn't make my under eye area greasy or my makeup break down, and it seems to have made a scar under my right eye fade faster than my skin normally fades scars (especially under the eye!). The Pore Minimizer I got as part of a set with the Microderm Abrasion cleanser, which I use in the shower once or twice a week.
I try not to blow dry my hair unless it's a special occasion, so most days I use John Freida Air Dry Foam and it makes my natural waves quite lovely and touchable. A spritz of hairspray along my part and hairline to keep the baby hairs away, and it goes up in a clip until I'm done with makeup.
